"In the native Tuathan tongue, Kau Lana translates to 'born of the wind and waves.' One can easily see how these dragons earned such a name. Equally agile in the sky and the sea, the Kau Lana struck fear into the ancient Tuathan islanders, who rarely ventured out to sea despite their reliance on it for food.Fortunately, not all Tuathans cowered before the dragons. According to legend, a chieftain by the name of Kaleiha ascended Tuatha's volcano and battled the largest Kau Lana until, at last, it bent to his will. Since then, the two races have lived in peace, working together as dragonriding pairs to nurture and protect their home."
"Unfortunately, Tuatha's prosperity could not last forever. Eighteen years ago, its central volcano erupted after centuries of dormancy, burning the village to the ground. As a gesture of goodwill, Luther invited all the surviving villagers to join him in Rigland's capital. Naturally, he adopted the Kau Lana into the ranks of the Red Dragon Knights as well. But the children of the wind and waves couldn't thrive so far from the sea. Year after year, their population dwindled, as the dragons rejected their new training and fled to the ruins of their island. Some say those who sail near Tuatha these days can hear their echoing cries, mourning the home they lost."
